At the end of September all stars collected will made to an art installation to be on exhibit at the storefront of the Homegrown Pearlridge Store for the entire month of October. Homegrown Pearlridge Store will host star weaving workshops and a star drop off collection for the art installation. We have also partnered with other local business to add more workshops and other star weaving incentives.
*Because this is a grassroots initiative in which we are donating our time, we are also welcoming lauhala or ribbon donations to weave stars. Materials can be dropped off at the Homegrown Store during their business hours.
September 3, 10, 17, 24 @ 3:30pm-4:30pm Tuesdays at Homegrown Pearlridge (Free), space limited to 10 individuals per each half-hour session during the 1 hour blocks each Monday afternoon. Possibility to extend classes to continue through October, based on demand and subject to change.
There will be multiple opportunities to weave stars and are encouraged to take the workshops with Kumu Lauhala Pi'iali'i Lawson and Keoua Nelsen but if anyone cannot make the class they can watch the video on Youtube https://youtu.be/qSjyDqztzaQ to learn the weaving and drop off any completed stars to Homegrown to contribute to the project instillation. Although most of the teaching we will use lauhala we encourage weaving with whatever material is available to you such as ribbon. It is best to use ribbon that can be easily creased to make the folds such as curling ribbon. To make the star you will need 4 strips about 1 inch wide by 20 inches long. (Lauhala or Ribbon).
Materials provided at the workshops but we also welcome you to bring your own material or also donate lauhala or ribbon to be used used to teach the star workshops.
